How to compare protective film thickness
Compare the same unit, number of layers and measurement method. A gauge label without its measurement convention is not a complete buying specification.
One layer or two?
Ask whether the stated thickness is for one layer of film or two layers measured together. Do not compare those numbers directly.
Keep units consistent
Specify micrometres (µm) or mil and the measurement convention. For length conversion, 1 mil equals 25.4 µm. This does not resolve ambiguous catalogue labels.
Confirm tolerance and method
Agree on a measurement method and acceptable tolerance for the selected material and product. Thickness alone does not establish puncture resistance or seal quality.
